Faces of Madina

Madina, Sierra Leone: A small town somewhere between Kambia and Makeni along the northern border of the country. Here my friend and I were welcomed with open arms and given food and shelter by the cousin of the uncle of the man who’s room we had rented through AirBnB. We were trying to get to Outamba Kilimi National Park and stayed in Madina while waiting for a car to take us to Kamakwei.

The Njai family was kind enough to let us stay in their spare room and Father Henry even drove us all the way to the park (about 4 hours each way in his 4 wheel drive vehicle). We met teachers from the school, and made many friends who took us through the markets and generally showed us the wonderful spirit of Sierra Leonean hospitality (Especially since we essentially showed up with very little notice and were unceremoniously dropped on their doorstep by a taxi driver).
